Royalty Graces the Wedding of Lord Mountbatten’s Great-Granddaughter

The presence of the British Royal Family made the wedding of Alexandra Knatchbull and Thomas Hooper so far the biggest society gathering enough to make almost a royal wedding. After all, the bride hails from royalty—his grandfather is late Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Prince Philip’s uncle.

Queen Elizabeth II, together with Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Princess Anne made sure they did not miss the society wedding of the year, joining the Countess Mountbatten of Burma, Lord Brabourne and their family at Romsey Abbey in Hampshire.

The Queen looked resplendent in her peach floral dress adorned with a gold brooch and a matching hat.

Prince Charles meanwhile, in a grey, three-piece suit, accompanied Miss Knatchbull as she walked down the aisle towards his would-be husband Thomas Hopper.

Princess Anne, meanwhile, joined her parents in her lilac dress akin to the style of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

The bride wore a white satin wedding dress finished with lace embroidery. Her wedding day brings nostalgia to the family as it is also the 116th birthday of Lord Mountbatten.

The 33-year-old Miss Knatchbull is a forensic accountant and theology graduate of Regent’s Park College Oxford.

The bride’s father, the 8th Baron Brabourne, is the son of John Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne, and Patricia Knatchbull, 2nd Countess Mountbatten of Burma. Countess Mountbatten’s father, the former Prince Louis of Battenberg was the youngest son of Prince Alexander of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse. Princess Victoria was the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, who was the second daughter of Queen Victoria.

Lord Mountbatten was especially close to both King George VI and Prince Philip and served as the last viceroy and first governor-general of India. He died in 1979 after a bomb placed by the IRA in his fishing boat exploded in Ireland. His grandson also perished in the assassination.
