After a month of illness prompting her to be absent in last year’s Christmas and New Year service, Queen Elizabeth II makes a surprising comeback as she attended church at Sandringham on Sunday. The 90-year-old was driven to St. Mary Magdalene Church just 400 years from Sandringham House in her Norfolk estate.

The Queen’s latest bout with an extreme case of cold forced her to be out of the public eye for almost a month. The last time the public saw Her Majesty was on December 9. Palace officials insisted that there was no cause for alarm, despite the fact that the public are used to the Queen being in robust health since she ascended in 1952.

Despite her illness, the Queen was still busy at work, presenteing Ray Wheaton, her Page of the Chambers, with the insignia of a  Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, reading government documents sent to her inside the "red box,” and even sending a message of condolences to the President of Turkey after a terror attack in the country which killed 39 people.
